Two more MPs of the Left Ecology
Freedom (SEL) party of Puglia Governor Nichi Vendola resigned
from the party on Thursday amid divisions over the government's
income-tax law.
Titti Di Salvo and Ileana Piazzoni were the latest to
announce they were stepping down after Gennaro Migliore, SEL
House whip, and Claudio Fava, deputy chairman of the House
anti-mafia commission, did the same.
Migliore said he quit because he wanted to vote in favor of
Premier Matteo Renzi's income-tax decree giving low-income
earners an 80-euro bonus, but the party line was to abstain.
Vendola said he has no plans to step down as party leader
and denied risks of a split in the party.
