Ukraine's new President Petro
Poroshenko spoke by phone with Russia's Vladimir Putin Thursday
after three Russian tanks reportedly crossed the Ukraine border
Thursday to join fighting in eastern parts of the country.
Poroshenko asked Putin for a plan to end fighting in the
east and south of Ukraine, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry
Peskov, quoted by the Itar-Tass news agency.
The tanks rolled across the Russian border into rebel areas
of eastern Ukraine, entering via a checkpoint controlled by
rebels in the Luhansk region, Interior Minister Arsen Avakov
said, according to the BBC website.
There was no confirmation from the pro-Russian separatists.
