Britain is raising its educational
and military aid to Nigeria in a bid to stem the depredations of
Islamist militant group Boko Haram.
In the latest promise of Western help since Boko Haram
abducted some 200 schoolgirls in April, Foreign Secretary
William Hague said Thursday the UK will increase both kinds of
aid to help Nigeria tackle Boko Haram.
The Nigerian army will receive extra training, especially
in counter-insurgency tactics, and a million more children will
be schooled.
The Islamist group, which has waged an increasingly bloody
insurgency since 2009 in an attempt to create an Islamic state,
has stepped up its attacks since the mass abduction and
thousands have died.
