(ANSAmed) - BRUSSELS, MARCH 7 - The European Union will not
recall its political delegations from Syria, said a spokesperson
of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton.
''It is important to have people in the area, considering that we cannot count on press freedom in Syria,'' he said. Recalling European ambassadors from Damascus ''is a question for the member states,'' said Michael Mann. "The European Diplomatic Service (Eaes) has no plans to withdraw its delegations." The EU intends to continue putting international pressure on Syria and force President Assad to resign and allow a peaceful transition. "The EU is ready to step up its sanctions against eh Syrian regime." (ANSAmed).
